The
Younger Sister Band started as an all-female bluegrass band in 2003, and has
morphed into its present state of country / rockabilly / good-time music (and as
an equal opportunity employer!) A much simplified story of how they began:
Brian Sakonchick and Jessica Segall grew up on the same block. Twenty-four years
later in their friendship, they are devoting their time to writing music,
instead of building submarines out of old lawnmower parts. Fletcher and Jessica
have led parallel lives, harmonizing for eleven years right through Italy, New
York and South Africa. After Brian and Joseph Lee met three times, they began to
remember each other, and destiny brought Joseph into the circle, straight from
the South Bronx and off of international tours. David Beauchamp was lured out of
the woods, where he had sworn off all material possessions by the temptation of
pure country rock.
The Younger Sister's first show started out as a goodbye party for Jessica as
she answered a calling to move to India for the year. After a yogi told Jessica
that something wonderful was amiss on the other side of the planet, she moved
back to New York to reform The Younger Sister Band as it is today. What most
people catch from one of their shows (aside from sore feet from dancing!) is a
positive vibe -- its true. They're all in love with each other, and want nothing
more than to bring positive, progressive music into your night!
