They've
been called "alt.bluegrass," "something beyond urban country," and, most
poetically, "Bible Belt noir," but six-piece outfit The Dixie Bee-Liners would
put it a little differently: "We're aiming more for the Brian Wilson direction
of string band music, if there is such a thing," quips mandolinist Buddy
Woodward.
The band takes its name from Kentucky Highway 41, "The Dixie Bee-Line Highway."
Singer and songsmith Brandi Hart is a native of the Bluegrass State and grew up
singing in Southern Baptist church choirs. Expect golden pipes and a lead foot
from Hart, who is known for her thoughtfully penned originals and high-octane
yodels.
Roots veteran Woodward is a founding member of much-loved alt-country phenoms
The Ghost Rockets. Currently, he also helms NYC honky-tonkers
The Nitro
Express.Guitarist Danny Weiss (of Tony Trischka & Skyline), fiddler Alan
Grubner (of
Astrograss), banjoist Jonah Bruno, and bassist extraordinaire Adam Bernard
round out the Bee-Liners' roster. Look for their debut EP in 2005!
