The Cobble Hillbillies

Never mind that this six-piece band has the funniest Brooklyn-referencing name this side of  Kings County Queens. Or that they’ve got the traditional bluegrass sound nailed down tight. These boys are just plain fun. Their string-centric three-part harmonies could be straight out of the Bill Monroe bible—that is, if Bill Monroe ever sang about riding the F Train. They bang out the tried ’n’ true styles with enough reverence to keep even the crankiest old traditionalist happy, yet manage to spice it up with enough smiling energy and big-city relevance to keep the Brooklyn country kids’ feet tapping.
